I ‘stumbled’ upon your article as I was looking for ‘testimonials’ about my own coaching to put into a proposal to show how the benefits of coaching could be assessed. RoI is, as you say, such a subjective measure… yet it’s the measure people ‘know’ to ask about. One other measure, besides RoE, that I have come across is RoB… and RoB comes before RoE which leads to RoI….

And RoB is simply Return on Behaviour. It’s about seeing tangible behavioural changes. This then can be assessed at a subjective level and is often a precursor to expectations being .met’.
